Postoperative Instructions

Starting the day after surgery:

DO:  Keep your face moist with water and Vaseline at all times.

DO:  Shower, splash water, or use a spray bottle with water as much as possible for the first week. This should be done at least 6 times a day.

DO:  Mix 1 tablespoon of plain white vinegar in 8 ounces of water, apply using a cotton ball or washcloth if itching is present. Use this instead or in addition to the plain water.

DO:  Apply Vaseline when the skin starts feeling very tight or when the skin starts peeling. Apply enough Vaseline to keep the skin moist and any crusting soft.

DO:   First wash or rinse your face with water or water and vinegar combination, then apply the Vaseline. Blot up excess Vaseline before next washing. You will do this routne at least 6 times a day.

DO NOT:  Touch or rub new skin between treatments.

DO NOT:  Use heavy application of Vaseline. Just enough to cover the skin is all you need.

DO NOT:  Pick at crusts or scab formations.

DO NOT:  Use creams, lotions, soaps, or any product that contain astringents, Retin A, Glycolic acid, or any fruit acids until instructed to do so.

DO NOT:  Use sunscreen until advised to do so. This could lead to unnecessary skin irritation.

DO NOT:  Expose yourself to the sun!!! Please wear a wide brim hat to protect your face from the sun.
